Most products and services offering PDF security and Digital Rights Management (DRM) services are either very expensive or do not offer real security, or even worse, expensive and insecure. Drumlin is unique in that it is now both free and very secure.

The Drumlin PDF reader/publisher software and associated DRM service have been developed over a number of years, initially as part of an academic publishing programme. This has been a technically demanding and costly process, but many of these costs have now been written off. Ongoing costs included server facilities, technical support, management and third party licensing of a special PDF library. By July 2009 we had produced our own PDF software to replace the commercial library. This enabled us to remove the restrictions on the use and pricing of the product and service, which is what we then decided to do. Technical developments and improvements to all aspects of the reader software and central service are ongoing and those affecting the reader are documented on the Release Notes page.

If customers require additional support, development and similar services over and above the free products and services then we will provide a quote for these, based on the additional manpower and resources required. Typically these charges would be in the form of a monthly service fee and/or a one-off charge, depending on the requirements. Examples of chargeable items include: guaranteed technical support services; branding and tailoring of the Drumlin reader and installation kit; delivery and support of the Enterprise version of the server software; provision of tracking and management reporting services; conversion and storage of secured PDFs; e-commerce services; provision of managed services etc.
